Angels tie MLB record with seven solo home runs, still fall to A's 8-7
The bats were alive for the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday against the Oakland Athletics.
Led by two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani's two long-balls, the Halos smashed seven solo home runs to tie an MLB record. Despite the display of power, the A's scored six runs in the top of the fourth, ultimately dooming the Angels in an 8-7 loss.
Ohtani finished with two homers, one in the first inning and the other in the bottom of the seventh.
Kurt Suzuki, Taylor Ward, Jo Adell, Jared Walsh, and newly acquired outfielder Mickey Moniak rounded out the Angels' long-ball hitters.
It's just the sixth time in baseball history a team had seven home runs in a loss. The most recent occurrence came in 2021 when the Twins socked seven home runs in a 17-14 loss to the Detroit Tigers.
The feat also tied an Angels' franchise record set in 2003 against the Montreal Expos.
