Angels trade Tyler Wade back to Yankees eight months after first deal

The Los Angeles Angels are trading utility player Tyler Wade to the New York Yankees, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan, eight months after the Angels acquired Wade from the Yankees in a November swap.

Wade, 27, was drafted by the Yankees in 2013 and made his major league debut with the team in 2017. In five seasons with New York, Wade played in 264 games and batted .212 with six home runs and 33 RBI. He was designated for assignment after the 2021 season and traded to the Angels for a player to be named later.

Now the Yankees are sending a player to be named later back to the Angels to reacquire Wade, who was DFA'd by Los Angeles earlier this month.

During his 67-game tenure with the Angels, Wade played every position except catcher and first base. He started the season with a .381 batting average through the team's first 10 games but batted .191 in his next 57 contests.

The Yankees and Angels have been heading in opposite directions this season. New York has the best record in MLB at 62-26 while Los Angeles has continued to slide down the standings and now has a 39-50 record.
