Free agent right-hander Anibal Sanchez suffered a finger injury during his showcase Saturday. The 37-year old Sanchez cut his finger just 13 pitches into the showcase, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.

He’s expected to need a week to 10 days to heal, but by Heyman’s account looked good.

Saturday’s showcase was the second for Sanchez this year. He reportedly turned down multiple offers following his January showcase over concerns over COVID-19 and the league’s protocols surround it.

Teams have remained interested in Sanchez, including the Washington Nationals, whom he played the past two seasons for.

Sanchez was a viable contributor to the Nationals winning the World Series in 2019 as the fourth starter in their rotation. He posted a 3.85 ERA and 11-8 record that season. However, his play tapered off during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.

Last year, Sanchez’s ERA ballooned to a career-worst 6.62 in 11 starts. He had a record of 4-5 and allowed 11.9 hits per nine innings.

The showcase was designed to display to interested teams he is ready for his 16th season in the majors. In addition to the Nationals, Sanchez has played for the Miami Marlins, Detroit Tigers and Atlanta Braves.
