On Friday, ESPN’s Dan Murphy reported that suspended Michigan staffer Connor Stallions compensated at least one person to record future opponents with “a couple of hundred dollars and a ticket to a Michigan home game”.

This would have included the game between Indiana and Penn State on Saturday before news of the scandal broke. The man, who remains anonymous due to privacy reasons, told ESPN that he attended three games during the last two years, including a game at Rutgers and at Penn State.

The source told ESPN that he was wary of Stallion’s plan “to a degree” when he was approached to record other teams and make photo albums on his iPhone, be he felt that if a member of Michigan’s staff was asking them to do it, they must have been within the rules.

“I don’t like it, but it’s a grey line,” he said. “You can call me naïve, but no one is reading the bylaws. I am not a contractual lawyer. I just felt that if you were not doing it, you were not trying to get ahead.’

The source who spoke to ESPN said he attended the Oct. 14 game between UMass and Penn State but stayed for a half due to the pouring rain, and the compensation was not worth staying.

“I only stayed a half of the pouring rain, and they were playing UMass,” he said. It didn’t pay well enough so I was like, yeah I’m not staying here.”

The source is the first person who has come to any news outlet about the scandal, he told ESPN, and no investigators have approached him yet.

Penn State will host Michigan on Nov. 11 at Beaver Stadium.
