Former San Diego Padres relief pitcher Austin Adams has signed a one-year deal with the New York Mets. Will Sammon of The Athletic was among those to report the news that the Mets announced on Thursday.

A non-guaranteed split contract means those contracts do not fully guarantee their salaries.

Adams spent three seasons with the Friars from 2020-2022. In his time in SoCal, the 32-year-old recorded a 3.97 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 3.98 FIP, and 85 strikeouts in 59 innings pitched and 70 games.

The righty reliever had a hard time staying healthy in 2022. At the start of the season, he was placed on the 60-day injured list after receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection for a strained right forearm. Later that season, he underwent season-ending flexor tendon surgery. After that eventful 2022 season, he signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks on a minor league deal.

The Florida native is heading back East, where he started his career with the Washington Nationals in 2017. We wish the veteran pitcher the best in his next journey.
