With just five games remaining in the regular season, the Arizona Diamondbacks have made the decision to release RHP Zach Davies, per Nick Piecoro.

Davies was drafted in the 26th round of the 2011 MLB draft out of Mesquite High School in Gilbert, Arizona.

He went on to bounce around a couple of teams before heading back to his home state to play with the Diamondbacks starting in 2022.

Unfortunately, this time in Arizona has not treated Davies particularly well. Last season, he posted a 4.09 ERA through 27 starts, and this season, he finished with a ridiculously high 7.00 ERA through 18 starts.

Things have gotten particularly rough for Davies over the past couple of weeks. In his past four starts, the 30-year-old has allowed at least three earned runs in each and has not made it past the 4th inning once.

And with the playoff race coming down to the wire for the Diamondbacks, this is not an arm that they can afford to have in their starting rotation.

Especially if they are hoping to have a deep playoff run.
