Ahead of the A's 12-8 victory over the Kansas City Royals, A's broadcasters Glen Kuiper and Dallas Braden were talking about the day they'd had on the road before the game, and some of the sites they'd taken in during the afternoon.
One of the most famous sites in the area is the Negro Leagues Museum, only the first word sounds more like a racial slur when Kuiper mentioned the visit.
Most fans watching the game didn't even see this happen live and were left wondering what had been said later in the game when Kuiper apologized on-air.
Kuiper says in the clip: "I just wanted to...a little bit earlier in the show I said something. Didn't quite come out the way I wanted it to, and I just wanted to apologize if it sounded different than I meant it to be said. I just wanted to apologize for that."
He finished the broadcast, but after the game, the A's released a statement.
"The language used by Glen Kuiper during today's pregame broadcast is unacceptable. The Oakland Athletics do not condone such language. We are working to address the situation."
Some fans are presuming that Glen Kuiper will lose his job. Others are hoping he keeps broadcasting A's games. The A's will presumably have another announcement on the matter ahead of Saturday's game against the Royals. First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. on the west coast, so we should know more before that time.
