Astros' Alex Bregman achieves modern-era first vs. Angels

Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman made history, smashing a grand slam with four walks in Saturday's 9-6 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

Bregman is the only player in the modern era (since 1901) to draw four walks in a game, with their only official plate appearance resulting in a grand slam, per OptaStats

According to MLB.com's Brian McTaggart, Bregman is only the third player since 1974 to hit a grand slam and walk four times in a game.

The 29-year-old sandwiched his grand salami between pairs of walks in an afternoon manager Dusty Baker described as a "Barry Bonds day."

With the Astros up 3-1 in the fourth, Bregman broke the game open, driving in four runs with a homer to left field. Location played a role in Bregman's history-making afternoon, as his long ball would've come up just short of leaving every field but Minute Maid Park

The two-time All-Star would like to see the Angels more often. Bregman's grand slam Saturday was the fifth of his career and the third off the Halos.

Bregman is on a tear of late at the plate, hitting safely in 10-straight games. Through 58 games, Bregman is batting .251/.355/.402 with eight home runs and 36 RBI.

However, he may be beginning to heat up, recording 14 hits, including three extra-base knocks, with 13 RBI over the last week and a half of action.
