Astros' Carlos Correa on IL due to health and safety protocols

On Thursday, Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa and second baseman Jose Altuve confirmed they're skipping this year's MLB All-Star Game held at Colorado's Coors Field this coming Tuesday night.

It appears Correa may be sidelined up through the start of the All-Star break.

Per Brian McTaggart of the league's website, Correa was placed on the injured list ahead of Friday's game against the New York Yankees due to health and safety protocols related to COVID-19. In a corresponding roster move, Houston recalled infielder Taylor Jones from Triple-A Sugar Land.

"If he says he's out sick, for this guy not to play, especially against the Yankees and [not] be in the starting lineup, then you know he's sick," Astros manager Dusty Baker said about Correa, according to ESPN

Houston relief pitcher Brooks Raley went on the IL because of health and safety protocols Thursday.

Correa explained Thursday he was missing the Midsummer Classic to spend time with his pregnant wife. "It's a tough decision ... people voted for me to be in it, people want me to see me play in it, but we've been trying now for a long time to have our first child and now that finally they're in her belly I want to be able to spend those days with her," he said at that time.

Correa goes on the IL hitting .288 with 16 home runs and 52 RBI.
