Astros' Cristian Javier makes World Series history in dominant start against Phillies

Trailing the Philadelphia Phillies heading into Game 4 of the World Series, the Houston Astros needed a dominant start on the mound from Cristian Javier to avoid falling behind three games to one in the best-of-seven series.

And boy, did they get it.

Javier was unhittable, literally. The Astros right-hander posted six innings of no-hit ball, walking two and striking out nine.

The 25-year-old's outing made him the first pitcher to post nine strikeouts and zero hits through five innings of a World Series game.

According to MLB.com's Sarah Langs, Javier is the first pitcher to carry a no-hitter through six innings of a World Series game since Jerry Koosman did it in Game 2 of the 1969 World Series.

Ahead of Wednesday's start, Javier had made two appearances for the Astros this postseason, allowing an earned run off two hits over 6.2 innings of work.

Javier earned the victory starting Game 3 of the ALCS, holding the New York Yankees scoreless through 5.1 innings of work in a 5-0 Houston win.
