Astros infielder blasts Giants following big game vs. former team

The one-year anniversary of Mauricio Dubon's trade from the San Francisco Giants to the Houston Astros is later this month. On Monday night, the utilityman got revenge on his old squad.

The 28-year-old spent three years with the Giants from July 2019 to May 2022 before being shipped to Houston. With star second baseman Jose Altuve still out due to his thumb injury that he suffered during the World Baseball Classic, Dubon has filled in both at the former MVP's position on the diamond and atop the Astros lineup.

Dubon recently had a 20-game hitting streak end, but he started a new one on Monday with his 3-for-5 effort. He enters Tuesday sixth in the American League in batting average at .317.

Despite his big start to the season, when Altuve comes back Dubon will surely lose his starting gig at second base. What works in his advantage, though, is his versatility.

While the majority of his appearances in his five-year career have come either in center field (130 games) or at second base (91 game), the 2013 draft pick has also played 60 games at shortstop, 15 games at third base, nine in left field and three in right field. With a combination of injuries and necessary rest for other players, Dubon should have plenty of more chances for big games.
