The Houston Astros have turned themselves into a franchise that is having one of the most dominant playoff runs in modern MLB history.

Seven American League Championship Series appearances in a row is the most ever for an AL team and the second longest streak for an MLB team behind the Atlanta Braves.

They've won two World Series championships since 2017 and have appeared in four.

But prior to this run, when people think about the Astros, the first two players who pop into their minds are Hall of Famers Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell.

They are two legends of the franchise who have their jerseys retired.

Houston has a few players on their active roster that will go down in the same light as both Bagwell and Biggio.

One player unlikely to hit that realm is their new addition Jose Abreu, who was signed in free agency before the 2023 season.

Still, he's had quite the impact for the Astros during this postseason run and has a shocking franchise playoff statistic.

Abreu has hit four home runs for Houston, tying the career postseason homer marks of both Bagwell and Biggio combined.

This comes in his first playoff appearance in an Astros jersey while Bagwell and Biggio both had six postseason runs with the franchise.

Neither of those two legends is viewed as a slugger like Abreu is, but it puts into context how good the free agent signing has been for Houston.

Abreu struggled during the regular season but has taken his game to the next level during October.

He's now become an important part of the lineup and is a major reason why the Astros are back contending for another World Series title.
