Athletics exercise option to keep manager Bob Melvin through at least 2022

The Oakland Athletics will roll with the Bob Melvin era for at least one more full year.

On Tuesday, the A's announced they've exercised the club option on Melvin's deal to keep him manager for the 2022 MLB season.

Melvin first took the gig as interim manager in June 2011 and has guided Oakland to six postseason trips and three American League West Division championships. The three-time Manager of the Year winner earned two of those titles while with the A's (2012, 2018) and has compiled a record of 808-715 with the organization.

The A's head into Tuesday's action at 41-27 and in first place in the division for the 2021 campaign.

According to Baseball-Reference, Melvin now sits second all-time for the most wins in A’s history recorded by a manager behind only Hall of Famer and baseball legend Connie Mack (3,582).
