Baltimore Orioles ' superstar Gunnar Henderson is set to take another big step on Friday as he battles back from an early-season oblique injury.

Per Orioles' reporter Roch Kubatko on social media:

Gunnar Henderson is taking live BP today for first time. Said shouldn’t be much longer before he gets in a game #orioles

That's certainly good news as Henderson is vital to what the Orioles do and what they hope to accomplish in 2024.

Henderson captured the American League Rookie of the Year Award and is one of the best young players in baseball already. He hit .255 last season with 28 homers and 82 RBI.

While it's not certain that top prospect Jackson Holliday will make the Opening Day roster this year, the idea of a Holliday/Henderson infield pairing for the next several years should have O's fans excited. It will be one of the most dynamic infield duos in all of baseball once it happens.

The Orioles won 101 games last season and captured the American League East title, but were eliminated in the American League Division Series by the Texas Rangers. Texas went onto win the World Series.

Entering 2024, the O's are one of the favorites in a crowded American League field. After adding Corbin Burnes in a trade this offseason, they should be able to keep pace with other contenders like the New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, Houston Astros and Rangers.

The O's open up the season on March 28 at home against the Los Angeles Angels.
