Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen will be sidelined at least two weeks with a small fracture in his right wrist.

Manager John Schneider announced Friday that Jansen, 28, sustained a broken pisiform bone when he was hit by a pitch on Wednesday.

Toronto opens the regular season in two weeks, visiting the Tampa Bay Rays for a four-game series from March 28-31.

Jansen hit .228 with a career highs in home runs (17) and RBIs (53) in 86 games in 2023, his sixth season with the Blue Jays. He is a lifetime .224 hitter with 65 homers and 196 RBIs in 409 games.

Jansen's absence likely means more action for primary backstop Alejandro Kirk, a 2022 All-Star who batted .250 with eight homers and 43 RBIs in 123 games last season.
