Blue Jays' George Springer now has quad setback

Outfielder George Springer put pen to paper on a six-year contract worth $150 million to join the Toronto Blue Jays in January but hasn't yet made his regular-season debut after starting April on the injured list with a strained left oblique muscle.

Per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), Springer complained of tightness in his right quad while running the bases Tuesday and underwent an MRI ahead of Wednesday's series finale at the Texas Rangers. Manager Charlie Montoyo told reporters the club wouldn't have an informed idea about the nature of an injury until seeing the results of the scan.

"Everybody's concerned because those injuries, you just never know where they are," Montoyo said. "It's tough because you've got to be careful, just like with the oblique. Because if you pull it worse, then you're really out for a long time. So that's the one thing about those injuries for anybody, that you have to be patient, be careful."

The 2017 World Series Most Valuable Player hasn't played since March 21.

Toronto lost to Texas on Wednesday and is 3-3 overall.
