Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman not starting Tuesday, return to rotation 'still up in the air'
Kevin Gausman missed his last scheduled start for the Toronto Blue Jays due to a right ankle bone bruise. The team was hopeful that the 31-year-old would be back on the bump Tuesday for the first game of a two-game set against the Philadelphia Phillies, but they will have to wait at least one day longer for his return.
Gausman signed a five-year, $110 million contract with the Blue Jays in December, capitalizing on his first All-Star campaign in 2021. In 16 starts covering 88 innings, the righty has gone 6-6 with a 2.86 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and team-leading 100 strikeouts.
With both Hyun Jin Ryu and Yusei Kikuchi on the injured list, Gausman and breakout second-year hurler Alek Manoah have paced Toronto's starting rotation and has them in the thick of the AL Wild Card chase.
The Blue Jays enter Tuesday with a 45-42 record and tied with the Seattle Mariners for the third wild-card spot.
