Blue Jays place Cavan Biggio on 10-day IL with ligament sprain in neck

The Toronto Blue Jays are struggling, and things might only get worse for the club over the next 10 days.

The Blue Jays put third baseman Cavan Biggio on the 10-day injured list with a cervical spine ligament sprain on Saturday. Toronto manager Charlie Montoyo says he expects Biggio to return when he's eligible to come off the IL.

"It's real nagging," Montoyo said, according to ESPN. "He gets loose and then he's fine, but then the more he plays, it gets too uncomfortable. The best thing for him is just take the 10 days so we can get rid of that pain and be ready to come back after 10 days."

Biggio was out of the starting lineup on Friday against the Tampa Bay Rays, but he did pinch hit.

Toronto is struggling with and without Biggio in the lineup. The Blue Jays have lost their last four games and failed to put up more than one run on Saturday, losing 3-1 to the Rays.

Biggio has particularly struggled this season, slashing .205/.315/.315 with three home runs and 11 RBI in 39 games. His numbers are down across the board from last season.
