The Toronto Blue Jays on paper have one of the best teams in all of baseball after adding Kevin Gausman, Yusei Kikuchi, and Matt Chapman during the offseason.

Their lineup features Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Bo Bichette, George Springer, and Cavan Biggio in addition to Chapman and their rotation features Hyun-Jin Ryu and Jose Berrios on top of Gausman and Kikuchi.

The team appears pretty confident about its future, so they put their faith in their current manager Charlie Montoyo, whose contract they extended through the 2023 season.

The deal also includes two club options after 2023, meaning that Montoyo could be around through the 2025 season.

Blue Jays Locking Up Their Skipper

The Blue Jays had great success in 2021 under Montoyo, finishing 91-71.

Toronto did miss the postseason due to how top-heavy the American League Wild Card race was, but Montoyo guided this team to a solid finish which would normally send a team to October.

But with some new pieces, Toronto looks ready to go and Montoyo has a lot more options going forward.

The Blue Jays seem to be confident in their current skipper and believe that he can guide them to a World Series title.

Montoyo has been at the helm since taking over the manager position in October of 2018.

He has been in the running for the AL Manager of the Year Award each of the past two seasons and also managed the Blue Jays to a 47-33 home record last season while the team was playing in three different cities due to the city of Toronto’s COVID-19 capacity restrictions.

We’ll see what Montoyo can do with a stacked ballclub in 2022.

But one thing is certain.

Toronto trusts Montoyo to lead them to great things in the future.
