Blue Jays starter in rare company with continued domination of AL East rival

The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Baltimore Orioles 3-1 on Wednesday behind a strong effort from starter Jose Berrios, whose continued domination of the team's AL East rival helped him join a rare group of players.

With the victory, Berrios improved to 10-0 all-time against the Orioles. Per ESPN Stats and Info, that's the third-most wins without a loss by a pitcher against one team over the last 80 years, trailing only Bill Gullickson (10-0, Seattle Mariners), Clayton Kershaw (11-0, New York Mets) and Randy Johnson (13-0, Chicago Cubs).

Berrios was electric on Wednesday, taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning against an O's squad that had won six consecutive entering the night. The 29-year-old allowed only three hits while striking out five over 7 2/3 innings of work.

Following his standout performance, Berrios credited a solid attack strategy and execution for Wednesday's win.

"We created a plan, we went to the bullpen to practice, I tried to get locked in for the game, and I did," he told MLB Network

Wednesday's outing was a promising one for Berrios and the Blue Jays. Berrios had lost three of his last four starts and was coming off a brutal outing against the Kansas City Royals, giving up eight earned runs over 5.2 innings in a 9-5 loss.

With the dominant win, Berrios improved to 7-4 on the season. He sports a 3.28 ERA with 75 Ks and a 1.16 WHIP through 14 starts. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays moved to 38-31, but still trail the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays (48-22) by 9.5 games while occupying fourth place in the division.
