Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to move from 3B to 1B
It looks like Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will have a slightly difference role during the shortened 60-game Major League Baseball season.
The Toronto Blue Jays star will switch from third to first base, manager Charlie Montoyo said, according to TSN's Scott Mitchell.
Many of the best power bats in MLB play first base. Now Guerrero will join the likes of Freddie Freeman, Pete Alonso, Jose Abreu, Paul Goldschmidt, Edwin Encarnacion and Joey Votto at first.
With Guerrero's shift to first base, there are a few options for who could take over his duties at third. Brandon Drury or Travis Shaw, who are both ranked second and third, respectively, on the Toronto depth chart at third base, could get the nod.
Last season, Guerrero Jr. hit .272 with 15 home runs, 126 hits and a .772 OPS. This isn't bad for his rookie campaign, though Toronto would like to see more out of the 21-year-old this coming season.
