The injury bug hasn't been too kind to your San Diego Padres. Star shortstop Xander Bogaerts has been dealing with a wrist injury that has been bugging him as of late and caused him to miss Sunday's series finale against the Cubbies.

Padres infielder Rougned Odor suffered a left groin strain on Friday night after recording a double but limped to second base. It didn't look pretty, but Padres skipper Bob Melvin provided an update for his two players prior to Sunday's game and said neither is considered severe.

“Rougned, way better today,” Padres manager Bob Melvin said. “Whether he’s available later, tomorrow for sure, they said he made significant progress. Certainly doesn’t look like an IL for him. Xander is just going to be day-to-day. I was going to give him today off anyway. We’ll see where we are with him tomorrow.”

Bogaerts received a cortisone shot prior to the 2023 season, but it was only a temporary fix as the pain has returned, which has caused his poor play. The 30-year-old mentioned that this is the longest he has played with discomfort in his wrist but has pushed through it. Xander was off to an MVP start to the season, and it looked like he was primed for a big year. Things have turned for the worst as of late, but hopefully, he can return to where he was for his and his team's sake.

Odor has had a solid season for the Friars, he's slashing .216/.303/.420 in 88 ABs, and in his past 15 games, he's hit .289. The sight of his injury didn't look promising, but luckily, it wasn't that serious. The 29-year-old has been solid for the gold and brown, and we'll see when he'll be back on the field.

The Padres can't afford any more injuries to key players.
