The San Diego Padres last saw drew Pomeranz take the mound for them in 2021. He served to be one of their most reliable bullpen pitchers and an important piece headed into a big spending spree for the franchise.

However, he has been hit with injury after injury starting with the 2022 season. He had to miss the year after getting surgery for his flexor tendon and he came into the 2023 regular season on the IL due to inflammation in his elbow that he discovered during Spring Training.

As it recently calmed down, Pomeranz was going to start making his way back to the lineup by taking part in some games with San Diego's AAA affiliate. He was set to pitch for them on Thursday but team manager Bob Melvin has come forth with bad news regarding Pomeranz's health once again.

"He's got a strained neck today so we'll see when he's able to pitch," said Melvin.

The severity of Pomeranz's neck strain was not provided so we'll be sure to keep a close eye on that and see if any other information comes out.

Joe Musgrove, who could make his season debut for the Padres next week, was also a talking point for Melvin and he touched on how his final rehab progression is coming along.

"Joe has a bullpen tomorrow and then we'll probably figure out when his next start is," said Melvin.

We hope to see both of these Padres return to the family very soon.
