The Boston Red Sox have been extremely frustrating this season. Filled with mediocrity, the Sox went from battling for a playoff berth just weeks ago to battling to stay out of last place now.

Entering play on Thursday, the Red Sox are 73-72 and tied for last in the American League East with the New York Yankees.

If the Red Sox do finish last, it will be the third time in the last four years, all under the leadership of Chaim Bloom. It should be noted that the 2021 Red Sox got to the ALCS, but that's looking like an outlier season.

Large portions of the Red Sox fan community are fed up with Bloom's tenure and want to see him replaced, with some even suggesting that Theo Epstein could come back and take the team over.

Epstein was named the Red Sox general manager in 2002 and held the position until after the 2011 season, winning two World Series titles. He then went to the Cubs, winning a title in 2016 and then worked for Major League Baseball, helping implement some of the new rules we've seen in 2023.

It's my opinion that aspirational people don't like to go back and undertake challenges that they've already conquered, and that seems to be the general consensus of people who know the Red Sox well.

Tom Caron of NESN spoke this week on 'The Brady Farkas Show' about the idea:

"...I don't want to rule out the idea that Theo Epstein could someday be part of the Red Sox again, because I think there is that possibility, but I just don't think that's now, I really don't..."

The Red Sox take on the Yankees in a doubleheader on Thursday.

First pitch of Game 1 is set for 1:35 p.m. ET.
