The Braves got some good injury news today, as Ehire Adrianza is expected to begin a rehab assignment in Rome:

Braden Shewmake has had a so-so start to his MLB career, only making one start and subbing in defensively against Baltimore. He’s a good defender, but Adrianza is clearly an upgrade at this point. And even if he wasn’t, Shewmake needs to go back to Gwinnett where he can play everyday instead of riding the bench in Atlanta.

When Adrianza is deemed ready to go, Shewmake will return to the Stripers, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we see him in Atlanta again soon. The injury bug has bitten the Braves early this season, and Shewmake has established himself as a better everyday shortstop option than Vaughn Grissom at this point. Hopefully, Orlando Arcia can stay healthy. He’s been unbelievable this year, but Shewmake has done enough early this season to warrant being the next man up in case of emergency.
