Earlier today, the Braves announced they have claimed outfielder Nick Solak off waivers from the Chicago White Sox.

Solak has played in the majors in each of the last four seasons. He began his career in 2019 with the Rangers as a 24-year-old and flashed a lot of promise over his first 33 games, hitting .293 with an .884 OPS. Unfortunately, that production didn’t prove to be sustainable, recording just a .246 average and .671 OPS in 839 at-bats over the last three seasons.

Solak was claimed by Chicago on April 14th and was quickly designated for assignment again, allowing the Braves to scoop him up. With the way guys like Kevin Pillar, Sam Hilliard, and Eli White have performed to this point in the season, it will probably take a lot for Solak to crack the major-league roster, but it’s always nice to have more organizational depth in case of emergency. The Braves have seen first-hand this season how quickly injuries can pile up, forcing players into much more prominent roles than expected.
