Following their 13-1 slaughtering of the Mets on Monday night, the Braves made a flurry of roster moves ahead of Tuesday’s contest.

Ryan Goins joins the roster as a backup infielder. If you remember, Dansby Swanson cut his head on the basepaths last night, and it looked like he might have to leave the game. Thankfully, he didn’t because I’m not sure what the Braves would have done. They didn’t have a backup infielder on their roster. Now, they do with the addition of Goins, but hopefully, he won’t be needed to play very often, if at all.

The most significant addition among the Braves roster moves is top prospect Freddy Tarnok joining the major-league club. Not too long ago, he earned a promotion to Gwinnett, where he’s been lights out through five starts so far, posting a 2.03 ERA and 0.938 WHIP. I don’t imagine the plan is to start him against the Mets or Astros, though. Tarnok is likely just around in case a garbage time situation arises, like last night.

Speaking of last night, Danny Young finished the final three innings of the game for the Braves, but he has been DFA’d to make room on the roster. Baseball is a tough business; Young actually performed well, even though the game was out of reach, but there was never going to be a long-term spot on the roster for him. He’ll likely catch on with another team, and on the bright side, he’ll also get a ring if the Braves go on and repeat as champions.
