The Braves announced Thursday the club paced Max Fried on the 7-day IL for a concussion that he suffered when he banged his head against the ground trying to make a throw to the plate in Saturday’s matchup against the Mets.

The Braves will certainly be without their ace in the upcoming series against the Marlins, which will likely feature some combination of Jake Odorizzi, Ian Anderson, Spencer Strider, and Charlie Morton since Kyle Wright pitched last night in Boston. It shouldn’t hamper the Braves too much since the reeling Fish are 3-7 in their last ten games.

The thing that is concerning is Atlanta’s upcoming series with the Mets. The club will play a three-game series in Miami this weekend, then travel back to Truist Park for a four-game series against the division-leading Mets that begins Monday. Hopefully, the rotation’s ace, Fried, will be healthy enough to make it back. The Braves backdated the IL stint to August 8th, setting the tentative return date for August 15th — the series opener against the Mets. The Braves will need Max Fried if they’re going to make up ground in the NL East.
