What could have been a monumental series for the Braves this weekend has quickly turned into disaster. They’ve lost three of the first four games against the Mets, falling 5.5 games back in the division with DeGrom on the mound for the finale. To make matters worse, the Braves also suffered several injuries during Saturday night’s game, beginning with their ace Max Fried, who took a hard tumble while attempting to make a play at the plate.
Thankfully, Fried was able to remain in the game, so it looks like he will avoid missing any time. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the other Braves who suffered injuries.
On another play at the plate — one that was egregiously overturned, but that’s another story for a different day — Travis d’Arnaud injured his right leg and had to leave the game.
Right now, the Braves are calling him day-to-day, so it looks like they avoided disaster, but I’m not going to celebrate too early. The team said similar things regarding Manny Piña and Adam Duvall, and they both ended up being lost for the year.
Lastly, Jackson Stephens was also hit by a ball in the leg and will be re-evaluated. Again, it doesn’t appear to be anything serious.
The Braves might have avoided disaster when it comes to injuries; now, they will look to do so again in the series finale against Jacob DeGrom and the Mets.
