Brewers' Corbin Burnes likely out for season with strained oblique

Ahead of Friday's doubleheader versus the St. Louis Cardinals, the Milwaukee Brewers placed right-hander Corbin Burnes on the 10-day injured list due to a strained left oblique.

While the Brewers began the day still eligible to earn a postseason berth, manager Craig Counsell told reporters that it's doubtful Burnes, 25, would be available through at least the first two rounds of the playoffs, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN).

Burnes left Thursday's contest against St. Louis in the fourth inning with what was first described as lower-back discomfort. He surrendered a home run, three earned runs, and six hits.

Following what would be a disappointing premature conclusion to his campaign, Burnes holds a 4-1 record with a 2.11 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and 88 strikeouts across 59.2 innings of work.

In corresponding roster moves, Milwaukee recalled infielder Ryon Healy and right-hander J.P. Feyereisen from the club's alternate training site.
