Brewers' Corbin Burnes, Zack Godley go on injured list

The Milwaukee Brewers will be without two noteworthy right-handers for a period of time.

Milwaukee confirmed on Thursday that both Corbin Burnes and Zack Godley have been placed on the injured list. Godley is dealing with a right index finger contusion, while no reason was given for Burnes' absence.

Those watching Wednesday's debacle involving the Brewers and Miami Marlins may recognize Godley as the pitcher curiously found guilty of obstruction as Miami second baseman Isan Diaz was running to first base in the top of the second inning of that matchup. Umpire Marty Foster went viral for making that call and then defended the decision after the game.

As Adam McCalvy noted for the MLB website, meanwhile, Burnes recorded 49 strikeouts without surrendering a single walk in his first five starts this season. That put Burnes within just two of the record for most strikeouts with no walks — 51, a mark held by Kenley Jansen of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ironically, Burnes was on track to face the Dodgers at American Family Field this weekend.

Per ESPN stats, Burnes is fifth in all of MLB in total strikeouts heading into Thursday night.

In corresponding roster moves, Milwaukee added left-hander Eric Lauer and right-hander Alec Bettinger to the active roster. Lauer is set to start Thursday against the Dodgers, and Bettinger will head to the bullpen.
