Brewers expected to activate SP Freddy Peralta from IL this week

The Milwaukee Brewers lead the NL Central by three games over the St. Louis Cardinals and may be looking to bolster their roster with a move or two ahead of Tuesday's MLB trade deadline.

If the Brewers don't pull the trigger on any deals, they will still make a significant addition to their starting rotation this week.

On Sunday, manager Craig Counsel told reporters that former All-Star Freddy Peralta would be activated from the injured list this week and make his next start for the Brewers in their upcoming three-game set against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Peralta made his last start for the Brewers on May 22, lasting just three innings after allowing five earned runs off six hits. The Brewers placed Peralta on the 15-day IL with a right lat strain the following day.

On June 14, the Brewers transferred Peralta to the 60-day IL. Ten days later, Peralta made the first of two rehab starts at Triple-A Nashville. Peralta allowed four hits and two runs (one unearned) while striking out eight batters over 5.1 innings.

The 26-year-old is 3-2 with a 4.42 ERA in eight starts for the Brewers this season.

The fifth-year pro earned his first-career All-Star nod in 2021, finishing the season 10-5 with a 2.81 ERA over 27 starts.
