Milwaukee Brewers right-handed pitcher Jakob Junis was hit in the neck by a batted ball while the Pittsburgh Pirates took batting practice on the field at PNC Park prior to Monday night’s matchup.
Junis was down on the outfield grass for approximately 15 minutes and received medical attention on the field before being taken to a hospital via ambulance for evaluation.
“Brewers pitcher Jakob Junis was hit in the neck by a batted ball during batting practice. He is conscious, alert and responsive. He was sent to the hospital for further evaluation.” the Brewers said in a statement.
Junis is currently on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder impingement. He made one start with the Brewers before he was sidelined.
The 31-year-old signed with the Brewers as a free agent in the offseason after spending the last two seasons with the San Francisco Giants. Junis spent the first five seasons of his career with the Kansas City Royals.
