The Injuries are starting to add up for the Milwaukee Brewers.  The latest player to land on the IL was Hunter Renfroe.  As a result, Mark Mathias was added to the 40 man roster and added to the active roster.

Renfore was taken out of Monday’s game against the Padres with hamstring discomfort.  He was removed after scoring on a close play at the plate following a Tyrone Taylor double.  The next step was to get an MRI in which today he was diagnosed with a hamstring strain.

How long will Renfroe be out?

In a video posted by Brewers beat reporter Adam McCalvy, Renfroe discusses how there is no clear time frame for when he may return.  He mentions it may be as quick as 10 days or that it could be four weeks.  When Craig Counsell was asked, he indicated that he believed it would be about two weeks.

With Renfroe out, for an unknown period of time, Tyrone Taylor and Lorenzo Cain should see increased playing time.  Andrew McCutchen may also see more time in the outfield as opposed to being the designated hitter. Corey Ray is on the Brewers 40 man roster but was placed on the IL and is yet to play in a minor league game this year.

The Brewers do also have two open spots on the 40 man roster.  If they want to add another outfielder from within the organization David Dahl and Jonathan Davis are favorites to be selected.  Top prospects Joey Wiemer, Sal Frelick, and Garrett Mitchell are all a few years away from being ready for the big leagues.  It is also worth mentioning that Mitchell is currently on the IL with an oblique strain.

It should be interesting to see how the Brewers fare without Renfroe.  He was performing very well offensively and his bat will be missed in the lineup.
