Brewers place SS Willy Adames on 10-day IL with ankle sprain

The Milwaukee Brewers have placed shortstop Willy Adames on the 10-day injured list with a left ankle sprain.

The 24-year-old was injured on Sunday night and forced to leave the Brewers' game against the Miami Marlins. Tagging up at third base in the first inning, Adames slid into home, appearing to roll his ankle. He attempted to stay in the game but exited after playing the field in the bottom half of the inning.

Adames has played 35 games this season for the Brewers, posting a .208 batting average, .304 on-base percentage, and .462 slugging percentage. In 148 plate appearances, Adames has nine home runs, 24 RBI, and 17 walks.

The Brewers acquired Adames in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays last May. Adames has batted .265, with a .349 on-base percentage and .505 slugging percentage, with 43 home runs and 124 RBI in 134 games with Milwaukee.

The Brewers re-called Keston Hiura from Triple-A Nashville to replace Adames' spot on the roster.

Hiura saw action in 15 games with the Brewers to start the season before being sent down to Triple-A on May 6. He recorded a .216 batting average, .310 on-base percentage, and a .378 slugging percentage. In 42 plate appearances, Hiura has two home runs, five RBI, and five walks.

The ninth overall pick in the 2016 draft by Milwaukee, Hiura has played in 219 games over four seasons with the Brewers. He is compiled a .240 batting average, .318 on-base, and .451 slugging percentage, with 38 home runs and 105 RBI.
