Milwaukee Brewers rookie outfielder Sal Frelick is off to a tremendous start to his MLB career. He has had his full arsenal of skills on display, including hitting for contact, hitting for power, speed and incredible defense. One unexpected aspect that has been prevalent so far is immense run production.
Through Frelick’s first 16 career MLB games he has accumulated 15 RBI. That is the fastest any player has reached 15 RBI in Brewers franchise history. The previous record was held by Hall of Famer Paul Molitor, who reached 15 RBI in 19 games.
1978 was Paul Molitor’s first season. He began his MLB career with six RBI in his first two games. He had a five RBI game during his second career game when the Brewers routed the Orioles 16-3. On his run to 15 RBI in 19 games he hit .298/.310/.417.
Frelick also has one five RBI game. He also has a four RBI game and a much higher slugging percentage. Through his first 15 games, Frelick is slashing .273/.435/.545 with three home runs and three doubles.
Thanks to Frelick's power and run production, Craig Counsell has been using him as the teams cleanup hitter.
