Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rowdy Tellez Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rowdy Tellez has dominated the Boston Red Sox throughout his career. Formerly a member of the Toronto Blue Jays, also of the American League East division, Boston was a frequent opponent of Tellez. Now with the Brew Crew, that success has continued and the home runs are still flying.

During the first two contests in a three-game set with the Red Sox, Tellez has hit home runs in each, and collected four RBI. Tellez boasts an impressive .336 batting average, 14 home runs, and 29 RBI in 110 at-bats against Boston in his career.

On Saturday, Tellez launched a two-run home run and had a RBI groundout. The Brewers won the game, 5-4, so his contributions highly swayed the outcome. He also has been doing a lot of damage with two strikes.

When asked about his success against the Red Sox, Tellez indicated that he has been asked this question several times.

“This is the big leagues, it’s a hard game," he said. "No matter who rolls out there, no matter what team, everyday there is a chance of going 0-4 with four strikes. I think sometimes it’s just the way it works out.”

Tellez went into further detail about his approach at the plate for his big home run that came on a two-strike pitch.

“It’s the same approach I’ve used all year and my entire career,” said Tellez. “Take out the leg kick, get the foot down, and see the pitch.”

To begin 2023, Tellez is chasing just 23.8% of pitches outside of the strike zone and his strikeout rate is a mere 23.1%.

The final game of the Brewers vs. Red Sox series will be on Sunday, April 23, with first pitch scheduled for 1:10 p.m. CT.
