Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames. David Kohl-USA TODAY Sports

Brewers shortstop Willy Adames has made a name for himself since arriving in Milwaukee in May 2021. He has hit 51 home runs with 57 doubles while slashing .256/.325/.483 with a 122 OPS+. In a recent interview with Adam McCalvy, he indicated that the Brewers have broached the idea of a contract extension. He currently has two years of club control remaining. Despite his desire to stay with the Brewers, teams have reportedly shown interest in trading for him.

According to MLB.com’s Juan Toribio, the Dodgers have interest in Adames. With Trea Turner available on the free-agent market, it is possible that the Dodgers are looking into backup plans should they not be able to retain him. Other available shortstops include Carlos Correa, Xander Bogaert, and Dansby Swanson.

2023 will be Adames’ age-27 season, and he is in the prime of his career. The Brewers are expected to be a contending team again next year, and Adames figures to be a key cog in their lineup. He’s been one of the team’s top contributors over the past two seasons and is a great clubhouse presence.

Eventually, Adames will be looking at a massive payday. He plays a premier position and is coming off a season in which he hit 31 home runs and had 98 RBI. It is hard to find players of his caliber who contribute both at the plate and with the glove.
