Following the Braves 9-3 win over the Phillies on Opening Day, it was immediately announced that Sean Muprhy is heading to the Injured List.

The Braves All-Star catcher came up holding his side after fouling off a pitch in the top half of the seventh inning. He was quickly removed from the game, and Brian Snitker provided an update after the game.

“He’s sore, he’s going to have to go on the IL,” Snitker said. “We’ll get him checked out tomorrow to see what the images say. I hate it for him, he had such a nice end to his Spring, was feeling good. Just one of those freak things.”

Oblique injuries are nothing to mess around with. They can linger and easily flare up if not completely healed. The Braves aren’t going to take any chances, which could mean an extended absence for Murphy, but he’s hoping for the best.

Hopefully, it’s nothing more than a tweak and Sean Murphy will be back on the diamond soon after the 10-day minimum he must serve on the Injured List.

We’ll keep you updated as more details emerge.
