Bryan Hudson was designated for assignment in late December to make room on the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 40-man roster for Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
That decision to DFA Hudson gave the Dodgers seven days to either him, or place him on outright or unconditional release waivers. Had he cleared waivers, the Dodgers could have sent him to the Minor Leagues.
However, that won’t be the case for the Dodgers as Hudson is moving on to a new organization. According to Robert Murray of FanSided , the Dodgers are trading Hudson to the Milwaukee Brewers:
Hudson appeared in six games for the Dodgers this past season, pitching to a 7.27 ERA and 1.85 WHIP over the limited opportunities he had. The left-hander was much better with Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he finished 5-2 with a 2.43 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 46 games (eight starts).
The 26-year-old spent four different stints up with the Dodgers this year, but was never able to find a spot in a crowded bullpen that featured multiple other lefties ahead of him on the depth chart, including Caleb Ferguson, Victor González, Alex Vesia and Ryan Yarbrough.
Hudson was the presumed favorite to be the odd man out when the Dodgers needed to make room for Yamamoto, but he was more a victim of the team’s roster crunch than due to a lack of talent on his part.
He originally joined the Dodgers in December 2022 when he was signed to a Minor League contract. Hudson now gets a change to compete for a spot in the Brewers bullpen that is in need of a left-hander.

Hudson made his MLB debut on June 17 last year against the San Francisco Giants, going two innings in the loss. He gave up three earned runs, but also picked up his first career strikeout.
In addition to Hudson, Dodgers who made their MLB debut during the 2023 season were Michael Busch, Gavin Stone, Bobby Miller, Jonny DeLuca, Nick Robertson and Kyle Hurt.
