Yesterday, it was Touki Toussaint that found a new team, signing a minor-league deal with the Indians. A few hours after that, Bryse Wilson wound up with the Brewers, who acquired him from the Pirates in a trade for cash.

Wilson was once a top pitching prospect in the Braves organization, and every fan will remember his Game 4 performance in the NLCS a couple of years back fondly. Wilson completely outdueled future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw, tossing six innings of one-hit ball, which gave the Braves a leg up in the series and put them just one game away from their first World Series appearance since 2000.

Following that performance, there were some high hopes for Wilson in 2021, but they never came to fruition, and he was eventually traded at the deadline for Richard Rodriguez, which was a deal that worked out poorly for both sides. Rodriguez had a minimal impact for the Braves, despite the team winning the World Series that year, and Wilson was DFA’d this offseason before the Pirates worked out a trade for the burly right-hander.

Wilson had a 5.52 ERA over 25 appearances (20 starts) for Pittsburgh last season. Unlike Toussaint, Wilson’s issues are a little different. He’s been spectacular at limiting his walks, averaging just 3.1 per nine innings over his big-league career. However, he’s been susceptible to the long ball, surrendering 35 of them over his last 41 appearances.

I will always love Bryse Wilson for his legendary NLCS performance as a rookie on the biggest stage. Hopefully, he finds some success with the Brewers.
