Cardinals' Corey Dickerson becomes 13th player in MLB history to record hits in 10 consecutive ABs
While St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols continues to shine during a career renaissance, on Thursday, it was teammate Corey Dickerson's turn to occupy the spotlight.
Dickerson accomplished two separate feats on Thursday against the Chicago Cubs.
In his first at-bat of the day, Dickerson recorded his ninth hit in as many plate appearances, setting a new Cardinals record. Dickerson passed Fernando Tatis Sr. (1998), Felix Jose (1991), and Curt Flood (1964, 1968), who held the previous record of eight consecutive hits.
Dickerson increased his at-bat hit streak to ten games in his next at-bat, etching his name into the MLB record books.
Dickerson became just the 13th player since 1961 to go 10-for-10. Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve achieved the mark most recently, doing so in 2018.
The streak ended in the fourth inning when Dickerson grounded into a fielder's choice. The expansion-era record for consecutive hits is 12, held by Boston Red Sox Dustin Pedroia (2016) and New York Yankees Bernie Williams (2002).
A 10-year veteran, Dickerson has four home runs and 21 RBI in 61 games, slashing .268/.307/.409.
