The St. Louis Cardinals are having a rough go of things lately.

After two tough losses at home ahead of a key stretch of games against teams over .500, things have gone south a bit.

Harrison Bader, Jack Flaherty, Tyler O’Neill, and Yadier Molina are on the injured list and the Cards are now 4-6 in their previous 10 games, having lost two straight to the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves.

They are second in the National League in runs scored, but the offense missed some key chances in their loss to the Braves on Monday.

One Cardinals fan tweeted about how Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado can only do so much and that it’s time for some more consistency on offense.

A Call For Offensive Production

This fan is correct that Arenado and Goldschmidt can’t carry the entire load.

They have been the key factors in the Cards’ offensive improvement.

But somehow, he seems to be missing the fact that Brendan Donovan, Tommy Edman, Juan Yepez, and Nolan Gorman have been enjoying solid seasons.

So, Goldschmidt and Arenado aren’t carrying the entire load.

However, he’s right that there’s only so much they can do.

The Cards had a big chance in the top of the ninth on Monday to do some damage with Albert Pujols at the plate.

Pujols failed to come through and the Cards lost a tough one.

The offense is a little cold as of late.

But that doesn’t mean that other Cardinals haven’t stepped up and produced.

Arenado and Goldschmidt are the cornerstones of the lineup, but other players have stepped up.

It’s just a matter of them all producing at the same time.

The offense will be key if the Cardinals want to catch the Milwaukee Brewers, who they trail by three games in the NL Central.
