Cardinals top prospect Nolan Gorman batting sixth in MLB debut

The St. Louis Cardinals are getting ready for an exciting youth movement this weekend.

The team announced on Thursday that they had promoted top prospects Nolan Gorman and Matthew Liberatore to their big-league club. Liberatore — a starting pitcher — will make his debut on Saturday against the Pittsburgh Pirates, while Gorman will play second base and hit sixth in his first MLB game on Friday.

Gorman was selected 19th overall by the Cardinals in the 2018 MLB June Amateur Draft and has mashed his way through the minors. In 341 minor-league games (including 110 since 2021 at Triple-A), the infielder has registered 72 home runs, 204 RBIs and a .273/.343/.502 slash line.

St. Louis enters their weekend series against Pittsburgh at 20-18 and in second place in the NL Central.
