Chicago White Sox signal willingness to trade almost anyone

Already sitting 12 games behind Cleveland at the All-Star break, the Chicago White Sox are seeing their hopes of a playoff run rapidly diminish. The team has endured underwhelming performances across the roster, and with the trade deadline coming closer the Sox are signaling a willingness to start moving pieces.

The New York Post's Jon Heyman has reported that Chicago has "opened for business." Sources tell Heyman that the club is willing to consider deals on all but four players on the active roster: outfielder Luis Robert Jr., first baseman Andrew Vaughn, designated hitter Eloy Jimenez, and right-handed pitcher Dylan Cease.

While Chicago may be willing to listen on nearly the full roster, this doesn't necessarily mean a firesale is imminent.

Right-hander Lucas Giolito could potentially be the most likely to move, as starting pitching is always a hot commodity at the deadline. Heyman notes the Rangers, Reds, and Dodgers as potential early suitors. The club has four other impending free agents who could draw some interest: relievers Reynaldo Lopez and Kenyan Middleton, infielder Elvis Andrus, and catcher Yasmani Grandal.

Two others, closer Liam Hendriks and shortstop Tim Anderson, have club options for 2024 that appear likely to be exercised though a trade for either shouldn't necessarily be ruled out. Anderson has slumped to career-worst production this season but still could bring something in return.

Most of Chicago's Top 30 prospects, according to MLB Pipeline, are in the lower minor leagues. Expect the club to target as much major-league-ready talent as they can once they start discussing deals.
