Former Atlanta Braves' standout Mike Soroka has made the starting rotation for the Chicago White Sox, and he is slated to start the second game of the year.

Soroka will start the White Sox's second game of the season against the Tigers, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

ANALYSIS
Entering spring training, it was unclear if Soroka would win a rotation spot. However, with Dylan Cease traded away and Brad Keller set to start the year in the minors, Soroka will pitch toward the top of the rotation to begin the regular season. He's battled a number of significant injuries across the last several years, though he did manage to log 32.1 innings in the majors in 2023. Still only 26, Soroka has also had an impressive spring, allowing only two earned runs across 13 innings while maintaining a 17:5 K:BB.

Soroka was acquired in the offseason trade that sent reliever Aaron Bummer to the Braves. He's got great potential and is a great bounceback candidate for the White Sox during this year of transition for the organization.

The aforementioned injuries cost him most of the 2020 season, and then all of the 2021 and 2022 campaigns. Lifetime, he's 17-8 with a 3.32 ERA.

The White Sox project to finish last in the American League Central in 2024, so there's plenty of opportunity for him to re-ascend.
