It is the end of an era in Braves baseball. Chip Caray, the long-time play-by-play announcer, will be moving onto a similar role with the St. Louis Cardinals, but he wouldn’t leave without saying his goodbyes, which he did via his son, Chris, on Twitter.
He will forever be a legend to Braves fans, regardless of your personal feelings on his performance. He was here for nearly two decades. I know I’m a young Braves fan, but he’s all I’ve ever known, so it’ll be strange to tune in and not see Chip Caray holding the mic.
The Caray family has been around baseball since the beginning of time, or at least that’s what it feels like. Chip’s grandfather, Harry Caray, was the longtime voice of the Cardinals, and Chip’s father, Skip Caray, was a legend in Braves Country.
Now, Chip will return to his hometown of St. Louis after coming to Atlanta in 2005. I loved him, but I’d be lying if there weren’t things about him that drove me crazy. Still, there’s no doubt that he’s one of the best in business and is headed for potentially greener pastures in one of the greatest baseball towns ever.
