Not exactly the statistic you want to best Cal Ripken Jr. — or anyone — in. Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

Breaking one of Cal Ripken Jr.’s all-time records seems like a great thing. He is a legend in the game and to surpass one of his statistical feats would seem like an accomplishment.

Unfortunately for Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis, he surpassed Ripken Jr.’s record for career strikeouts with Baltimore. The worst part, it took Davis 13 fewer seasons to "accomplish" the feat.

It sums up Davis’ season. The 32-year-old is the worst player in baseball this season with a .155/.229/.269 slash line, a .498 OPS and more than twice as many strikeouts (104) as hits (41).

Davis wasn’t aware of his statistical milestone but admits it comes with the way he plays the game.

“I heard. No I wasn’t aware of it,” Davis said, via MASN Sports. "It’s not something I’m particularly proud of, but it’s something that unfortunately is part of my game. It’s a big part of my game and always has been.”

This is certainly a season he would like to forget. Given he is owed $84-plus million over the next four seasons, it’s a contract Baltimore regrets every day.
