Clayton Kershaw: Increase in no-hitters 'probably not good for the game'

Detroit Tigers pitcher Spencer Turnbull threw a no-hitter against the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night. One night later, Corey Kluber pulled off the same feat for the New York Yankees for the sixth no-hitter of the season.

Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw praised his fellow pitchers for their accomplishments but also said that the increase in no-hitters doesn't seem good for America's pastime.

"No-hitters are cool and I have all the respect in the world for Corey Kluber and [Madison Bumgarner] and all those guys that have thrown no-hitters," Kershaw said. "But to have one happen every night … it’s probably not good for the game."

The record for most no-hitters in a season is seven, meaning that there only needs to be two more over the next few months for a new record to be set. At the current rate of no-hitters, it's virtually a guarantee that the record for most no-hitters in a season will be broken this year. Kershaw seemed to suggest the MLB's new baseball may be partially to blame.

"Fans want to see some hits, I get that, and some action and not many people striking out," Kershaw said. "So I appreciate the attempt that MLB has tried to do but I think it seems like they missed the mark so far."
