Cleveland ace Shane Bieber reports to spring training after bout with COVID-19

Reigning American League Cy Young winner Shane Bieber reported to spring training with Cleveland in Arizona on Saturday after a battle with COVID-19, according to The Associated Press (h/t ESPN).

Bieber experienced mild coronavirus symptoms and was forced to isolate under Major League Baseball's health and safety protocols. Cleveland's other pitchers and catchers reported to camp earlier this week.

The 25-year-old was the best pitcher in baseball during the pandemic-shortened campaign, going 8-1 with a 1.63 ERA, 0.866 WHIP and 122 strikeouts in 77.1 innings. He led the league in wins, ERA and strikeouts.

Bieber will be expected to put together another solid season for Cleveland, which traded Carlos Carrasco and Francisco Lindor to the New York Mets earlier this winter. He'll head a rotation that includes Aaron Civale, Zach Plesac, Triston McKenzie and Logan Allen.
